REBEL BODIES
available for touring
REBEL BODIES is a collaborative work by multidisciplinary artists KM Taavitsainen (FIN), anna thompson (US) and taylor knight (US) / of slowdanger. This multidisciplinary and international collaboration centers an eco-acoustic sound approach through the processing of field recordings from nature sites including Pirunvaara (FIN) and Ärjänsaari (FIN). These embodied sound practices activate interspecies and environmental empathy through a queer world building process enmeshing movement, projection, sound, sculpture and material research. In awareness of our current environmental crises, REBEL BODIES engages radical imagination as a portal to witnessing how our bodies, environment, and communal interactions are inextricably intertwined.
The project premiered in 2026 at the Ärjä Festival in Kajanni, Finland, facilitated by Vaara-kollektiivi.
REBEL BODIES is supported by the Kone Foundation, SKR Kainuu Fund, Vaara collective & Routa Company.
This project is supported by the International Program for Creative Collaboration & Research of the School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies at the University of Maryland.
Special thanks to KORPIQUEER collective, Routa Company and inter- gallery.
